Artist Statement
The work of Earthworks Macrame reflects the desire of the artists, Cate and Doug McClure, to focus on the personal, holistic, and organic nature of life. Cate is inspired by modern knot-based textile artists to explore non-traditional materials, textures and contemporary techniques to create knotted tapestries which elicit the beauty, simplicity, and geometric symmetry of nature.
As the Earthworks label implies, natural elements such as stone, sea glass, driftwood and organic wool and cotton fibers are integral to the work, highlighting nature's bounty. Doug does all stone and glass cutting for the tapestries.
