Artist Statement

After graduating from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1988, I was fortunate to receive a traveling scholarship that allowed me to immerse myself in the rich artistic heritage of Western Europe. Experiencing these masterpieces firsthand instilled in me a profound admiration for the artists of centuries past and deeply influenced my own creative journey.
For me, painting is an exploration of depth and dimension, where control, balance, and mystery converge. Regardless of the medium, these elements are essential in conveying the essence of the work. My fascination with ancient structures and mystical carvings has led me to develop a body of work that harmonizes time-honored forms with contemporary concepts.
Incorporating cypress wood into my work offers a unique opportunity to celebrate its natural beauty. By blending the inherent qualities of the wood with my painting, I strive to create a balanced composition that resonates with both history and modernity.
