Artist Statement
Participating as a member of the New Art, New Artist College Mentoring Program.My work has been impacted by the experience of live music. The instrument�??s loud sounds and rhythmic noises merge into many different layers that become overwhelming and create a sensation of pure enjoyment and escape. Through my work I am attempting to translate the way that I experience music into complex surfaces with many different layers. These different layers are reminiscent of the overall experience of the live music but also include things like what the inside of the venues/bar look like and the album art of the bands merchandise. Through the use of simplistic forms, detailed line work, various applied textures, and bright bold glaze colors the work slowly starts to build up layers that emulate the overall experience of live music.
