Artist Statement
In this work I explore the process of traditional wax batik. I layer hot wax and fiber reactive dye; mark-making, painting, and improvising, to create a barrier between the silk and applied dye color. I continue to cover the piece with wax building layers of color and pattern until the darkest layer is achieved. The wax is then removed and the piece is returned to its original state. I them transform this one of a kind yardage into garments for the body.
